Elksport/WMSS Strut Brace review
There are many varying opinions about
the fitting of strut braces to high-powered front wheel
drive cars. The individual driver has to decide whether
the addition of a strut brace improves the feel of the
car for him/her. We wanted to find out if it was a worthwhile
upgrade for the Saab 9000. The answer was a resounding
yes!
Gareth fitted the strut brace last
summer to his MY95 9000 CSE 2.3T which was already fitted
with suspension upgrades including Koni shock absorbers,
lowering springs and poly bushes.
The initial test drive provided a more
confident feel from the front of the car under both
acceleration and under braking conditions. The strut
brace seemed to add to the effectiveness of the other
suspension components enabling the front suspension
to work more efficiently.
The strut brace is straightforward
to fit for the home mechanic although a 2nd pair of
hands proved very useful. Once fitted the strut brace
also is also pleasing to the eye and various colours
are available to suit different coloured cars.
Strut Braces are available in both
stainless and normal steel (normally powder coated),
which allows a range of options dependant on budget.
Having now covered several thousand
miles with the strut brace fitted Gareth is extremely
pleased with the improvement it has made. A worthwhile
suspension component to fit to a fast road car and definitely
on the wish list for the Carlsson track car.
