Brembo disc and Pagid fast road pad review.

Given the Saab 9000 is such a heavy car, one thing that is well worth upgrading for track or road use is the brakes.

Chris recently needed to replace the discs and pads on his Aero. He spent some time looking through the different options available, from OEM replacements to large calliper upgrades.

He chose to upgrade to Brembo discs with Pagid fast road pads, after online recommendations and experience from a similar setup on Gareth's car.

The Brembo discs are an aftermarket replacement part, but they are excellent quality. Certainly comparable to the genuine Saab part. The Pagid fast road pads are considerably harder than the standard Saab or other aftermarket pads.

The combination of Brembos and Pagids is also notably cheaper than standard OEM pads and discs. Replacement is straightforward and requires no additional labour upon fitting than OEM Saab parts.

With the pads and discs fitted and bedded in the braking was much improved over standard. Despite some suggestions to the contrary, the pads do not seem to suffer any great loss of performance from cold. They have a far more positive bite and seem far less prone to brake fade compared to the OEM Saab parts that were previously fitted.

The only drawbacks from this pad/disc combination are an increase in brake dust and some brake squeal when the brakes are applied gently (despite the backing plates being greased), however, given the cost of this upgrade and the dramatic improvement in fast road braking performance these are small concessions to make.

Whilst there are many brake packages available, we have been so impressed with the performance on our road cars we have opted to fit this setup to our track car as a first step upgrade and are looking forward to seeing how they stand up to track use.

Brembo discs and Pagid pads are available from the Elkparts online store.
